My Chicken Purse

Isn't this the cutest thing?  I especially like it because Catie made it for me.
Being the chicken lover that I am she knew I would love it.
I just had to share it with you.
She crocheted this purse.
I'm just going to share pictures with you today.

She is Unusual but Talented

I'm speaking of my daughter Catie.  She can whip up a large cross stitch picture in a matter of hours.  When she was 5 years old she crocheted a chain with rug yarn.  Do you want to know what she was making?  It was her Rapunzel Hair.  Funny thing is she was born with a head full of hair; so much so that the doctors and nurses took tours to see it.  She would stand at the top of the stairs and throw down her hair.  We never knew but always watched for her hair to be on the staircase.

In her spare time there is yarn in her hand and she can out crochet anyone I know.  Yes she is young and has had the talent of my grandmothers' from such a young age.  She makes scarves, purses, any number of things.  Sewing is another of her talents.  She can look at something or think of something she wants and just make it all without patterns.  When she was also 4 or 5 I had to give her a needle and thread to design and make her many Barbie Dolls their designer clothing.

Today I share a design that shows she is young.  It is her latest cross stitch design from the horror movie Evil Dead.  She likes horror films.  I am too squeamish but here is her latest.

Sampling of things she makes anything from scarf, hamburger purse, eyeball bag.  Yes that's right an eyeball bag...told you she is unusual but talented!

~Ralph Lauren~

"People ask how can a Jewish kid from the Bronx do preppy clothes? Does it have to do with class and money? It has to do with dreams."
– Ralph Lauren

My personal thoughts:  Where do I begin? My first thoughts go back to the 70's when all the rage was Ralph Lauren Jeans, denim.  I can remember traveling to find the best price for them.  The tailored shirts for ladies were great to have too.  So neat and crisp.  His designs among others were all the rage then:  Like they aren't now.  Yes I'm laughing at what I just said. I also think of mama and her love of red, white and blue in her clothing.   She was a fan also.   His designs be they formal or informal are favorites of mine and I am sure yours too.
This is a long post but with the wealth of information on this man, I consider it short.  Please take the time to read the links for more information.

Aren't we lucky?  America's iconic designer.  When I see or hear his name it brings to mind America!  The colors of course Red, White and Blue.  He is "Americas' Designer" yet so much more!
This all started this morning while I was going through my magazines.  I have a very big problem taking the time to read and enjoy them when they arrive.  Yes I do still love to hold a book or magazine in my hand, to enjoy the photos. The feel, the look, you can't get that anywhere else. Having said that, I for the last two days have been curled up on the white sofa trying to stay warm, reading, looking, and enjoying.  I came across a stack of Architectural Digest Magazines and Ralph Lauren is on the cover of one.  I so enjoyed the article and it brought back such memories that this post had to be made.  'dolly'

Synopsis

Iconic designer Ralph Lauren was born Ralph Lifshitz in New York City on October 14, 1939. Lauren worked in retail before developing a line of neckties. The brand he established, Polo, is now one part of an empire that includes fragrances, home furnishings and luxury clothing. Lauren has used his personal fortune to amass a collection of rare and classic cars.

Personal Life

Lauren married receptionist Ricky Anne Low-Beer in New York City in 1964. He successfully concealed the fact that Ricky was only half Jewish from his parents before the wedding.

The Laurens are the parents of three children: Andrew, David and Dylan. David Lauren is the only one of the three to have made his career at Polo. In 2011 he married Lauren Bush, the niece of former President George W. Bush and the granddaughter of former President George H.W. Bush. Andrew Lauren is a film producer, while Dylan Lauren is the owner of the New York City candy store Dylan’s Candy Bar.

The Lauren children seem to have inherited their father's creativity and ambition. Ricky and Ralph's oldest son, 42-year-old Andrew, is a successful movie producer.
"The first movie I made was a film called G, which was a hip-hop Great Gatsby. My father actually did the clothes for The Great Gatsby with Robert Redford," Andrew says. "It is about making stories, telling stories."

David, who's 39 years old, is the only child to go into the family business. He serves as executive vice president of advertising, marketing and corporate communications at Polo Ralph Lauren. "I'm lucky to have a boss who is also my mentor and my father," David says. "What makes the company special is that there are 22,000 employees who all look at my father like a father. In many ways, they're my extended family. It's brothers and sisters around the world, who feel that same connection."

The Laurens' only daughter, 37-year-old Dylan, owns her own successful business, Dylan's Candy Bar. This Manhattan sweet spot is one of the largest candy stores in the world. "To me, candy is more than just candy you eat—it's fashion, it's colors, it's pop culture, it's art," Dylan says. "I just love it."

RALPH LAUREN TO SPONSOR MASTERPIECE ON PBS

-First Television Series Sponsorship for the Iconic American Fashion Brand-

Boston, MA, September 10, 2012—MASTERPIECE, the celebrated PBS drama series known for hit programs such as Downton Abbey and Sherlock, is pleased to announce that Ralph Lauren Corporation is becoming a national corporate sponsor for the series.
It is the first television sponsorship for Ralph Lauren Corporation, a company renowned for perfecting the art of classic American design.
“To have Ralph Lauren choose MASTERPIECE as their first TV sponsorship is an incredible tribute to our series,” said MASTERPIECE executive producer Rebecca Eaton at WGBH Boston, who noted that MASTERPIECE has won six Emmy® awards for Outstanding Costumes. “Their support will help us maintain the standard of excellence that drew them to MASTERPIECE in the first place."
“We are proud to be associated with MASTERPIECE and public television,” said David Lauren, Executive Vice President of Advertising, Marketing, and Corporate Communication, Ralph Lauren Corporation. “This is a great partnership with a brand that represents the same commitment to quality and excellence as Ralph Lauren.”
I really like the show, but then again I have always watched PBS Masterpiece.  My love for that began a very long time ago.  I'm talking years!   Mama watched their programming so I grew up watching it.  Downton Abbey is one of the many I have and am enjoying.  I have to say though that the things that intrigue me the most are the fashions, the surroundings the homes, castles.  That is what I personally most enjoy about this program as well as the other Masterpiece Programs.  'dolly'

One of Ralph's quotes that I really love
"Style is very personal.  It has nothing to do with fashion.  Fashion is over very quickly. Style is forever."
